When we are put under pressure or forced to think on our feet we often give away subtle signs that show our true intent often without realising. This is especially important in our body language as we speak before our brain has time to react to our body’s response.

With this in mind here are 5 body language signs to look for.
1. Starting at the top of the face.
• The eyes are the key to the soul, so look for the following signs. Looking away from you or lack of eye contact could be a good indication that someone has lied to you.

• Their smile, does it look fake? Was there a delay in smiling? Are they relaxed and natural as smiling uses lots of different muscles making it very difficult to fake without looking forced.

• Touching the face or covering the mouth could be a sign that they are hiding the truth or they are nervous about something.

2. The arms and positions of them.
• Folding your arms in front of you is often a sign of weakness or fear of invasion to personal space.
• Holding your arms up again shows submission or fear however waving them about will mean aggressive behaviour or an attempt to gain power by looking bigger (like what you would do if attacked by a large animal)
• Arms held behind the back may indicate they are hiding something.
• And arms naturally by the side or mirroring with your actions often means they are relaxed and confident.

3. The body torso, as this is the main part of the body and has all your limbs attached how we position it gives off more information than we know
• Being hunched up could be a sign of weakness or fear even pain.
• A more upright posture will indicate power authority and dominant action.
4. Hands and what we do with them often tell people are true intent.
• An obvious one would be clenched fists normally meaning anger and aggressive behavior.
• Pointing with your thumb at someone shows a lack of respect towards them.
• Well pointing with the whole hand and arm is a show of power and dominance

5. Legs and feet. How someone stands or sits gives off loads of information about their intent.
• Standing or sitting with the legs open is a sign of dominance and power.
• Crossing the legs could be a sign of weakness but more likely to show personal space well one leg folded over the other when combined with an open posture is a good indicator that they are relaxed and confident.
