The Knights Templar were a group of warrior monks who were founded in the 12th century to protect Christian pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. They were also known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, named after the Temple in Jerusalem where they were headquartered.
The Templars became one of the most powerful military orders in the Middle Ages, and their legendary wealth and influence made them a target for persecution. In the early 14th century, King Philip IV of France, who was deeply in debt to the Templars, accused the order of heresy and had many of its members arrested and tortured. The order was disbanded in 1312 by Pope Clement V, and many of its members were executed or imprisoned. Hence why Friday the 13th is deemed as unlucky.
Despite their untimely demise, the Knights Templar have continued to capture the imagination of people for centuries. They have been featured in numerous books, movies, and TV shows, and their legend has inspired numerous organizations and secret societies.
