The Scary Reality of Signing Up for TikTok: Why You Should Never Use the App

When signing up for TikTok, users may not realize the extensive amount of personal data they are giving access to. TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, requires users to provide their device information, IP address, mobile carrier, time zone setting, device model, device system, network type, device IDs, screen resolution, operating system, app and file names and types, keystroke patterns or rhythms, battery state, audio settings, connected audio devices, face scan data, fingerprint data, voice prints, media metadata, name, date of birth, phone number, and email.

It’s important to remember that if a service or app is free, you are essentially paying with your personal information and data. TikTok may seem like a fun and harmless way to pass the time, but the app is collecting an alarming amount of sensitive information on its users. It’s not worth the risk to your privacy.
