5 Signs You May Been Hacked!

Well there are many attack vectors that cyber criminals can use to acquire access to systems and personal information most of them can be placed into only a few method types.

1. Direct access from brute force attack or DDOS ect (this is when an attacker finds information about your business or personal information online and uses that information to try and guess your password or finds your personal or business website information and floods the site with requests until it crashes hence DDOS.)

2. Indirect access from social engineering, packet sniffing or phishing attacks and ransomware (this is when the attacker gains information directly from you or your staff to form the attack like fake emails containing dangerous malware or code to gain access to systems. This also includes tapping into networks using something called a Wifi pineapple that has the ability of acting as a Wifi access point making a man in the middle attack.)

Lets Cast a Net on your Internet security

Let’s go phishing

So with this in mind here are 5 signs that could show you that your network has been compromised.

1. Unusual email from companies or suppliers that may look legitimate but they may contain malicious code or malware even ransomware (this is called phishing)

2. The same goes for any unexpected phone calls from people claiming to be legitimate business (however this may be social engineering for a phishing attack)

3. A spike in site traffic expecially if from a single IP address could be a sign that hackers are scanning the network (using the WiFi pineapple or network scanning nmap sends large amounts of data as does most other hacker tools like password crackers ect to the target network)

4. Unusual activity on your computer system’s such as pop- ups from sites that normally don’t use them or pages being diverted and icons moving without permission (this could be an indication that someone has hacked it and they now have remote access to the system)

5. Your staff could be a weak link (untrained staff can fall victim to phishing attacks and un-vetted staff could be a serious security risk to the business as can any staff members that are sacked or leave on negative terms.)

Always vet staff and change passwords as well as access control reducing the risk of unauthorised access to systems and your buildings.
